Santa Session Prep

Let’s make this visit with Santa super easy!

PREP YOUR CHILD(REN) FOR MEETING SANTA

  1. Start early (a few weeks) talking about how nice and kind Santa is. How special he is, what you love most about Santa. Having an open discussion so your children don’t make up fears in their head is super helpful.

  2. Have your kids make a list or start thinking about what they want to ask Santa for. Remind them Santa does not bring live pets as gifts!

  3. If you have young children, make sure you are photo ready as well! Sometimes parents will need to pop into the photos to help ease the nerves of their little one.

  4. Bring a gift from Santa from home. You have the option of dropping off a wrapped gift prior to your session. This can help ease any nerves and create even more options for images for your session.

  5. Bring special holiday items with you. A book you always read at Christmas, jingle bells, snow globes, or even a snack inside a coffee mug (helps comfort the kiddos if needed).

  6. Lower expectations. Sometimes it doesn’t go as planned, but stay calm, and we will work through it. That’s why we are doing a generous 20 minute session to allow for slow introductions etc.

WHAT TO WEAR | DRESSY

  • Avoid solid red because it may clash with Santa’s suit. Instead select outfits with red detailing or go with neutral or jewel tones.  Think colors that compliment Santa: White, cream, green, navy, muted tans, or blue tones.

  • Consider Patterns and Textures… Navy blue plaids, baby blue, and neutrals are a great option! I love sequins or a cream colored sweater that is cozy.  Pro Tip: Keep in mind, patterns are great, but don’t overdo it, and don’t do all matching (especially when planning outfits for multiple children). Patterns & soft textures are key to breaking up colors. I suggest one pattern to every two solid colors.

  • Remember the details. Dress shoes, tights, bowties, suspenders, hair clips/headbands, etc.

  • Some shopping spots I love: Carter’s, Hanna Andersson, Joyfolie, Gap, Old Navy, The Children’s Place, Janie and Jack, Boden…

WHAT TO WEAR | PAJAMAS

  • Christmas pajamas are an adorable idea! Pro tip: either wear slippers or go barefoot.

  • With Pajamas feel free to do matching, or mix it up.

  • Bring a lovey if your child is attached to one.
